My 6 year old 17" CRT Hp monitor has formed a slight ghost, and recently glitching every so often. From this information, I deduced I will soon need a new monitor. Being as poor as I am, I'm going to have to stick with a CRT, plus they are usually better for gamming. 17" is the right size for me, but which one? I was looking at an HP flat screen 17" from best buy for $220 with a $50 mail in rebat, plus I have a few best buy bucks.

It only goes up to 1280x1024 like my current one, but I never go that high anyways. And It includes some basic speakers I could use for a computer that needs some new ones in the other room. So if anyone has any information about this, or any comparable monitor, let me know. Thanks.

I really like KDS.  I have a 17" no-logo KDS that I bought two years ago, no problems, for less than $150.00.  It requires no drivers and has excellent on-screen, up front adjustments for viewing.  Screen is only semi-flat but no problem in viewing.  I am sure prices and quality have improved.  No speakers included, but Labtec has good ones with sub-woofers for less than $40.00, two channel stereo.  KDS often has rebate offers.

I just checked pricewatch.com and KDS has a 17" "extreme" (whatever) flat, 1280 x 1024 resolution for $119.00 including S&H, 3 year warranty,  from several sources.  Like I said, better prices and quality now.

I happened to pick up a 17' Sony HMD-A20 a couple of months back from Dartek.com. It was something like $99 + there was a $20 rebate. It is a pretty decent monitor FWFW.
