Outlook Express Spellcheck?

I had outlook express 5.5 installed but could not get the spellcheck option to work so I upgraded to Outlook 6 and still have the same problem.  The option is there under tools and it is on the tollbar but it is shaded so I cannot click on it.  It seems like there should be a simple fix but I cannot figure it out.  I also tried going to options to the spelling tab but it is not even there although it is there on my other pc.

Outlook Express doesn't have a built in spell checker, but it does use spell checkers provided by 3rd party applications, such as Microsoft Works.  If you have Works, try reinstalling it.

If u DO have MS Works, and u use Spybot Search and Destroy, Spybot will detect the Autoupdater for MS Works as adware, and if u delete tht file or registry entry, it will prevent spell checking in OE.
