Is it actually possible to upgrade a laptop graphics card and/or processor?

Sometimes, it is.  Most often, the choices are very limited - there are many more different processor packaging types for mobiles than for desktops, so you must be sure you're looking at the right type of replacement.

Although there have been some attempts to standardize video card design for notebooks, most are still proprietary in design - you can only use a card designed for your model, or one closely related to it.  Note, however, that among a lot of the smaller notebook vendor companies, that there are similarities between models - because most notebook computers are built by the same handful of companies - Quanta, Compal, Arima, Inventec, Samsung, LG, etc. - no matter whose name is on the machine.
