scrivener, I don't know of anything that will do that prior to install. What I would be most worried about in regards to downloading would be a Virus/Trojan/Worm. For this reason what I do is this. Go to a clear area of the desktop where there are no ICONS and right click. You will see a menu come up. Choose New and then another menu comes up. Click Folder. There will now be a folder on your desktop called New Folder.



When I download new programs from the web I choose to download them to the New Folder and not open. I then can run my Anti Virus program to check for know bugs prior to install.



As for the Registry. You do have a Reg checker.

Can anyone offer any guidance on downloading programs that might unexpectedly corrupt the OS registry?   Because of my own few bad experiences and those of others I read about, I feel very wary of taking advantage of attractive opportunities.
