Post by: tattoozit on November 14, 2003, 16:00 hrs
I recently istalled a dvd drive into my toshiba tecra 520cdt laptop.  it seems to work alright, but i cant get it to play dvd movies.  i downloaded a dvd software program from the web just to see if that was the problem.  it seems to read, but the playback is real choppy.  it stutters somewhat. can anyone help?

Welcome to Poasters!

The 520CDT has a P166MMX processor, this is far below the minimum requirement for playing back DVD movies (~350MHz).

You *might* be able to purchase a Cardbus based MPEG2 decoder (I've seen these on eBay) but I don't know how well they work, and which DVD software they support.
