Joanie, not really. The card he was referring to was a DVD decoder card. Remind me again what the specifications are on the Quantex. Also what make of DVD did they install on your Q. Also they should have told you upfront what you needed to be able to view and hear DVD video and audio. In my experience you should have a fast processor, at least 128mb RAM, a 32mb video card that supports mpeg2 and DVD video. As for DVD software you can find a great deal online for Power DVD versiion 3.0 at Directron This is great DVD software. However before anything else poast the specs of the computer.

Hi Ya John,

Thanks for the reply. I just heard from the shop about the DVD player and he is going to take care of it.

Last night I checkd out the Win 98 CD and there was no such DVD program on it.

I gave my old Q to my friend and I was the one who suggested the new DVD so I felt bad when a movie could not be played on it and since I also encouraged the purchase of the movie to be sure it worked right I felt equally responsible.

Joanie, you are a very thoughtful friend. That was a very nice thing to do.

I had a DVD installed by a local computer shop but when I tried to play a movie it didn't work. When I called and asked why not I was told that you need a card or software and the software could be found on the Internet.

My friend told me there should be a play DVD option in Win 98 in the accessories, entertainment section, that selection was not to be found there. I then went to "find" and found a folder called video in the DVD list. In the help file it explained how to play a DVD disk but the program did not work. Is it possible that win 98 did not install DVD  software because at the time of installation there was no DVD hardware installed.

If I reinstall win 98 do you think it will automatically install a DVD program and will win 98 reinstall over the existing win 98 without any trouble.

Thanks

Joanie
