Connect Dell Lattitude CS to a PC

I have a dell lattitude CS laptop and a Packard Bell home PC.  I was wondering if there is a way of connecting the two so I can use the CD-ROM, CD-RW and the larger capacity hard disk in the PC via the laptop screen dispensing with the bulky PC monitor.  Any advice would be appreciated as I'm a tecnical virgin.  Many thanks

Probably the easiest way would be through a network.  Do both machines have network cards?
