i have a question regarding shared video ram on laptops..... does a 2.4 pentium4 512ram laptop with 64 mb shared video ram comparable in video graphics with a laptop with 64 independant video ram...... how much of a difference is there?

query

Likely, quite a bit of difference.  Integrated video is usually fine for 2D, but for 3D work, it trails just about any dedicated video card you can buy.

The lead time on developing a chipset forces manufacturers to use yesterday's video technology - not to mention the fact that integrated video is designed for a low price, not high performance.

Some of the nVidia chipsets have respectable integrated video, but they're designed for Athlon processors.  Intel and SiS are not known for performance video - it's designed for low cost and for decent 2D (office app) performance - not for high-performance video.
