Linux Distributions Disappearing

The inevitable is now occurring; Linux distros are being dropped for lack of funds.  Kanotix is the latest.  That is a big disappointment to me because I purchased an Epson CX3810 printer primarily due to Kanotix recognition.  The problem is that most distributions are "piggy-backed" on someone else's project and then expanded.  That can come crashing down if the parent version changes or drops its develpoment.  Ubuntu now has the biggest following, a fact that is very disappointing simply because I have never been able to install any Ubuntu version or variant on a hard drive and have it function with either of my monitors.  I am sure the Linux craze will continue, but Ubuntu developers are a bit like WalMart in that they want to gobble up everyone else in order to finance and develop their own project.  That also could be said of a lot of big businesses everywhere, a very bad moral ground to stand on (or sink into).
