Some of you have already read this one, but hey, it's new here.

Ode to a Dying Modem

April has been the cruelest month,

Taxes and teasing spring first

Hang me out to dry,

Then soak me again on the storm-

Twanged line while the waters rise

And my modem fries.

The good news is Time flies--

Or limps, or trips and sprawls awry.

While weeds are snipped and

Coffee sipped, familiar pages load like

Dense  bricks of tarnished gold paving

Life's endless oatmeal road.

Online! Online!

O, to be righteously connected and thus sated!

This Addict's drug, which, fed, thrills

With the search for something

Like Byzantium, is now checked; like

Poetry dreads itself unstated, I know

The rush anticipated shall  instead be stilled.

To be the captain of one's browser may be enough for some.

But as for me, I have heard the static hum.
