Very interesting.  While I do think that Windows XP is a good achievement, I don't think that it's anything that Windows 2000 couldn't have been a year ago.

After all, the same programs that wouldn't work in Windows 2000 still don't work in Windows XP (in my tests anyway).  I will stick with Windows 2000 since I already have it, and dual boot with Windows 98SE for games.

Kitty Kat that was a very enlightening article. I have been seriously thinking Win XP but now I am going to wait. Perhaps there is a lot more I need to learn about ME before taking the big step to XP.

I have been running win2000 since it came out and winxp since RC2 now i have the final dont ask how i also ran every other O/S that microsoft has ever put out

I feel that win 2000 was and still is the best O/S XP has added a little flare

but it is still 2000 with bells it brought back somethings that 2000 didnt have

wich is really cool

In no way would i see myself spending that much money on XP when i have tweaked my 2000 to do almost the same

I have run every piece of software on 2000 that i have thrown at it

games business apps everything never had a problem but I run newer apps so older may not be as foregiving, XP is however another story I have run into many apps that gave errors saying that it wouldnt work in XP but you can emulate programs with XP to run as 98 95 and so on I havent tried this

I do agree with Chandler that XP is a good achievement

Check out this article at PC Magazine about Windows XP, and what the author doesn't like about it. He makes some good points.
