Do you have a 5.1 channel sound card and speakers?  If so then you might think that regular 2 channel audio played on it is lacking in some way.

This may be your answer.  It takes 2 channel audio and upmixes it to 5.1 channels.  You can either let it do it by itself or you can specify your own settings.  There is also an A/V Sync option for video files and support for 16bit, 24bit and 32bit mixing.

I tried it an was astounded by what it achieves.  You get a similar sound to what Dolby Pro-Logic II gives, but this is absolutely free!
