Windows 7 anyone?

So far I like what I'm seeing in Windows 7. Enough that I might give the beta a spin.

Unfortunately, I don't trust Microsoft. I really hope I'm proven wrong, but I expect MS to do everything within its power to ruin the final release. If in the end Windows 7 is another bloated Vista, then I'll probably continue to nurse XP as long as I can.

Nonetheless, Windows 7 is so far looking good. Here's one of the better Windows 7 reviews that I have come across.

That was a long article, but thanks for poasting it. Very informative.

I'm hoping for a chance to get in on the beta testing and have requested to be included at the MS connect web site.

We'll see, it's hard to tell how they pick the testers.

But there's a plethora of other operating systems out there to play around with. If you have time take a look at PC-BSD . I think you'll like it.

I poked around at MS Connect, but anything that I found in reference to beta testing Windows 7 is that MS is not accepting applications at this time. At least that was my understanding.

Did I miss something?

PC-BSD is interesting, though. I might give it a spin on one of my spare computers.

Yeah, that's the way it looked to me too. I just left a message in their forum asking to be included along with what seems a few thousand others.

That's the impression I get too.  To address his three main complaints:

1. Just as slow as Vista.
I haven't found Vista to be slow at all; in fact for me it's more responsive than XP.  I can understand that it would be slow if you ran it in 512MB RAM or even 1GB.  It is impossible to add new features to an operating system and expect it to perform just as fast as a 8 year old one.  Windows 95 runs great on this Athlon X2 but I don't think I'd want to use it everyday.

2. Just as consumer-focused as Vista
Why?  No commentary here to suggest what he wants to do or why he can't migrate.

3. Just as confusing as Vista
From how he has worded this, it sounds like he wants a new operating system but he doesn't want it to be any different!  ::)  Seriously, what on earth did he expect?

He doesn't seem to like change.  I bet this guy has worn the same pair of underpants for the past 10 years.
