Hello MarkE, welcome to Poasters.com The relationship between Dell and Quantex? Just a lot of nice people getting online and helping each other with sometimes trying situations. On the other hand tell us about your new notebook. For a review of your notebook go to http://www.zdnet.com/products/stories/pipreviews/0,8827,429752,00.html  Good luck with the Photography, nice camera.

Hi, MarkE and welcome. John answered your question re: Dell and Quantex as far as Poasters is concerned, but if you meant on a larger scale, there really is no relationship, especially now that Quantex is defunct. A point of confusion often arises because Quantex and Dell both bought and resold laptops made by Compal. Those models were nearly identical, and Q parts can often be cross-referenced with Dell.

Our Quantex Help! page lists several good tech resources for Q laptops, including MCE, who provide tech help in this forum when time permits.

As for Poasters, we originally began as an unofficial replacement forum for the original Q Chat, a free and freewheeling forum for Q owners and potential owners that convinced many of us to buy Q's in the first place. When Quantex support began to slip, we added Dell to our resume', and when we moved here to our own domain we opened the doors to anyone with the means to get here.

Hope that helps.

The Inspiron 4000 is a Quanta product, not Compal, so there truly is no relationship between it and any notebook sold by Quantex (or CyberMax, or any of the other Fountain labels).

Query, Bear, and John: Thank you for your responses. I just was under the false impression that Quantex and Dell might be the same products marketed under different names.

Now, John, since you asked about my new toy, this is what I got:

Dell Inspiron 4000, 20GB, 256 RAM (free upgrade!), battery upgrade(8 cell instead of standard 4), combo DVD/CD-RW (swapable w/floppy which I'll rarely use since I'm working with high resolution digital images - BUT can still be used externally), and extended warranty(3 yr. parts/labor & lifetime tech support for $99).

The ZDnet review is right on with pros and cons. I'm not planning to play DVDs much, so external controls are a moot point. I was much more interested in raw power than the fancy bells and whistles, since the digital images and editing will need it. I feel like I made a good choice. Oh yeah, I got the Super XGA screen too!

This looks like a great forum; glad I found it.

markE, A truly impressive piece of technical mechanical enginuity indeed. As for the SXGA screen good choice.

Hi! I just registered, so please be kind to this newbie. I have two questions:

1)What is the relationship between Quantex and Dell computers?

2)Anybody have opinions on the Dell Inspiron 4000? I just got mine 2 days ago. I love it so far. I'm just starting in digital photography(I use a Nikon Coolpix 990 digicam), and I'll be using the laptop for image storage and editing.

Thanks in advance!
