windows messenger

i just started trying to use windows messenger, i have one contact added, but it wont let me add anymore contacts.  its not the email host (i.e. yahoo, hotmail, msn) cause i tried all different kinds.  i attempt to add the new contact, it types in but the "finish" button is neither highlighted or clickable.  the "next" button is, but even when you click it, nothing happens.  any ideas? thanks
