NOLA update:

The beating of the 64 yr. old  non-drunk drunk resulted in a tightening and enforcement of the city's curfew at 11:pm.  On the second night some customers and staff found in the bar at 11:00pm were locked in by the police until 6:00am the following morning.  The 11pm curfew lasted a total of 3 days.

The Bourbon St. owners notified the police that beginning on the 4 day, or night, that they were going to openly defy the curfew, some even offering patrons 2 for 1 drinks after 11:00pm.  Shortly thereafter the police announced the curfew had been changed to 2am, effective immediately.

The small bar and restaurant where the daughter is working is yielding $150 - 200 per night in tips.  A mixture of locals, FEMA related folks and imported construction workers.

Party has resumed.

Well, yes, I think construction workers are important too.  Hold it.. imported.. oh.  I guess a lot of people there are imported.  I don't know if I'd like to spend three days at 11:00.

I saw on the news that the kids are still away for the most part and schools are closed.  At least the new gig is paying off.  I wish I would've gotten tips, as a teacher...  Well, besides "Don't give Tom a detention; you really don't want to be stuck in the same room with him for an hour after school."

Ace; don't move to Florida just yet.
Ring bells for service.

Many, many of the kids in the Orleans Parish are likely never to be back.  Parents are relocated and settling into new situations.  Why come back to public housing that was a disgrace before the levees broke?

It is rumored that Heaven?s Lobby is going to be renamed after this hurricane season.

Heaven's Lobby - the last place old folks go before the ascension.

Geez, talk about a long lived relationship.

Tips are good there.  Interestingly enough, the locals, typically, tip better than the tourists.  They seem to understand everyone has to make a living.

curfews are serious business....like commy or dictator serious... :-\

Bill

Yes, I agree.  In this case the curfew was needed when there was a good deal of looting going on in New Orleans.  Today, however, the looting has all but stopped, people are returning.  New Orleans is one of the few cities where drinking on the street or carring an open container is not against the law.
IMO, the curfew was in effect to easy the burden on the Police rather than trying to protect the population.  It too has all but vanished.
