I'm just curious as to how you name your computers.  I never paid much attention to this until I began to use networks, both at home and in my job, at which point I realised how important it is to give a computer a unique name.

In our company, each office decides how they want to name their computers.  I "inherited" our computers and the previous person had decided upon PLACEFUNCTIONNUMBER.  This makes sense, and it's logical, but we have 5 AutoCAD systems in one office, and at times it's difficult to remember which one is SHEFCAD01, SHEFCAD02 etc.  One of the other offices has named their computers after mythical creatures or gods.

In my home network, they're named after members of a team of dancers that I met whilst vacationing in Cuba.  With real names, I find it easier to remember which computer is which, because it kind of gives each computer a personality.  But because they're Cubano names (e.g. Dunia and Yarida as opposed to say Kate or Sarah), it's unlikely that if a friend or family member brings their computer and connects it to my network that there will be a clash of names.  The only issue is in pronunciation, so I probably wouldn't use foreign names in our company (for example Maylet is pronounced "my let" and not "may let").

So, how do you guys name your computers?

I patterned the name of my main computer and one of its hard drive partitions after our work model. My laptop is named after the make, "Toshiba". The secondary computer is named after the case "Foxxcon".

The reason I named the main computer after our work model is because of the database that I built for the office. Since it is installed on a network, the network directory has to function both at work and at my home.

Scuzzy; I tried "AceBozo" but it didn't work.

My PCs get named a name that describes their purpose like photoPC, mainPC, ipcop, ect...
Enjoy the nature that is around you rather than destroying it.

Ace

I'm not sure I understand.. my computer already had a name.  I just asked him what his name was, and he said
"Hal."
So, I named him what he was already named...

Ace; I don't know why he calls me "Dave" though...
Ring bells for service.
