I have a 40GB HD that is partitioned 20/20.
Win 2000 on one side and Win XP Pro on the other.
I want a clean start.I want to Reformat  the drive
into two partitions 10GB for Win XP Pro and 30 GB
for media etc. I want to lose Win 2000 completely.
Can a program like Partition Magic 8 reformat both
partitions into one and then let me create the 10/30
I want?

You don't need the utility unless you need to do the job without wiping out the drive and all the data.  PM can do that job and retain your data.

If you're going to start clean anyway, boot the XP CD, delete both partitions, create two new ones, and install XP.
