Hi KStone, welcome to Poasters!

It depends. The official max temp for AthlonXP is 90C (194F), beyond which damage may occur. In practice, I would not want my CPU temp to exceed 70C (158F), and have enabled shutdown in the BIOS if it exceeds that. Most folks running XP not overclocked and with retail HSF seem to get about 50-60C (122-140F), depending on the usual variables - ambient temp, air flow through case, effiency of case fans.

If you wanted to overclock, then you should probably look for a better cooling solution. The extra heat generated by jacking up the voltage/FSB on the CPU requires a better HSF (or even water cooling). Otherwise, you are probably OK with those temps.

For comparison purposes, my XP1800+ is not overclocked, with retail HSF, and is currently at 53C (127F), and it runs very stably.

My CPU Runs from 130F to 140F.  My power supply is about 177F.  My system is about 110F.  Are these too hot? I have an AMD XP 2100+, not overclocked, with an AMD certified heatsink.
