Compaq won't boot

 I have a Compaq from a friend that won't boot is a compaq 7470 and this is what it does ..When you turn on you can hear the hard drive and everything else them the bios test the memory displays ok and the compaq logo comes out but after that it just hangs there forever ....Any ides what should I tried

First thing is to try booting from a CD-ROM or floppy - the hard drive may simply be bad (many Compaqs store part of the BIOS code on the hard drive, so the system may not boot if it's corrupt or the drive has failed).

If it'll boot from a CD or floppy, try replacing the hard drive.  If not, open the case and reseat all the cards, cables, memory, CPU, etc. before going further.

Ok I had tried booting from floppy and Cd and no repond I also try a brand new Hard drive and nothing happens  I will try reseting all the cards in the motherboard

 I reset all the cards including the cmos battery and still nothing any other ideas
