At the start of the weekend we went to see Angels & Demons, based on the book by Dan Brown first published in 2000 and starring Tom Hanks.  The story is actually a prequel to The Da Vinci Code although Director Ron Howard reverses the order of events.

This movie runs 2+ hours and could have been longer.  It is a completely enjoyable and believable suspense thriller about a plot to destroy the Catholic Church.

The action is fast moving and the movie is chock full of historical and scientific facts that could be fascinating if the viewer had time to think about them.  I would caution to heed the PG13 rating because it has a few rather gory and/or gruesome moments.  But definitely worth the admission price.

Sadly, I've yet to see the DaVinci Code.  I'm pretty sure that's the affliction that killed DaVinci...

I think I'll enjoy Angels and Demons, and glad to hear you liked it.  The only thing that grates my nerves is anything supposedly truth-based that takes liberties with the truth... like Biographies where they make stuff up or change things or cast somebody with no resemblance to the person in question.  With Angels and Demons, I've heard about the priest leading the College of Cardinals (I don't hardly think so..) and the sequestered candle lighted take on the election that isn't at all like how it goes down.  One of those things where I wonder "why did you even bother to do that..?  Why didn't you actually stick to a realistic depiction of it?"  I don't know what's gained with NOT following reality, on stuff like that.  But for pure fiction it sounds like fun, as long as you don't take it seriously.

Here's something to think about during dinner, and a movie... The Last Supper was the first depiction of the TV Dinner Family.  You know, where you're watching a show and everybody sits on the same side of the table so they're facing the camera...  That has to to be the original take on that.

Ace; I do enjoy a good gory gruesome moment.  Although not while I'm eating.

Never heard of it. But I did enjoy Ace's ramblings. I was eating popcorn while reading it.

Have you considered that at the Last Supper everyone was on the same side of the table so that they could all have a good view of the television? Huh?

Recently I watched Bedtime Stories (Adam Sandler) with my wife and daughter. That was a GREAT movie; based on a true story. Really. Funny as all h*ck.

I'm looking forward to watching Gran Torino.

Scuzzy; I'm confused. Wait... maybe I'm not.

Ace,

Don't be too hasty to judge..... The Conclave description came from another book based on interviews with over 100 Cardinals.  The candlelight accommodated simultaneous action elsewhere.  And the priest you commented on was the Camerlengo.

See the movie, or better yet read the book, its better.

Look, I don't have time not to be hasty to judge.  I know Chevy is coming out with a new Camerlengo, and the 6 has pretty much the same horsepower as the Mustang V8.  But I don't see that as being beneficial in pulling themselves out of bankruptcy at this point...

I honestly don't have the patience or inclination to read books.  I guess as a literature major I got burned out early...  I mean, my wife thinks I'm in the bathroom long enough as it is but I'm not in there long enough to get through a book.  An SI or Car & Driver or Guitar Player is about all I can handle, under the circumstances.  And the more photos the better, any more.

Every reference I can find says the Carmelengo is a Cardinal... hence the glitch in having a priest play that part in the book/movie.

Ace; I enjoy my ramblings too, most of the time.
