A Bridge to Hawaii

A somewhat despondent man was walking on the beach in California, when he decided to pray.  He prayed, "God, please, could you build me a bridge from here to Hawaii, so that I could just jump into my car and drive there whenever I wanted?"

The sky darkened, and God replied, "Do you understand how difficult this is?  The engineering required to design this, all of the steel and concrete?"

The man said "But you're God, you can do anything."

God said "Sure, I can do it.  But wouldn't you want to ask for something less material, something more spiritual?"

The man thought for a moment, and said, "You're right.  What I'd really like is to understand women.  Why they say yes when they mean no.  Why they never say what they really mean.  Why they?"

God interrupts and says, "This bridge, did you want two or four lanes?"

"I shall pass through this world but once.  Any good I can do, or any kindness that I can show any human being, let me do it now and not defer it, for I shall not pass this way again."
