A solution for the annoying Vista UAC notices
« on: Feb 18, 2009, 09:53 AM »
Turning off UAC in Vista is a bad idea since it removes the security that is provided by it. What is annoying is that you always get the UAC prompt regardless of how many times you do the same task. There is no option to tell it to not ask again. I decided to find a fix for it and came across one that works very well. Symantec has a free utility that replacess parts of the UAC in Vista with a better functioning version. Their version seems quicker and it gives you the option to check the "do not ask me again box." I can now do common tasks without getting a UAC prompt. I have been using it a while and recommend it. You can download it from here.

Mark H; Microsoft should incorporate something similar in SP2, but I bet they won't.

Windows 7 uses a different UAC setup, so it won't work on Windows 7. I have mine working on Vista 64 and it works beautifully. I now have no more repeat notices.

I find 7's UAC system much less obtrusive than Vista's amyways, but glad you found a less obtrusive one for Vista. I completely disable UAC in Vista, but it is good in 7, though I do wish it had the 'don't show me for this task' option.
