I just want a concensus to the size of everyones partition for vista. I am going to dual boot xp pro and vista 64. I made xp 45gb because I will not be putting a lot of info on that partition. I was wondering what you thought a good size for vista will be? I was thinking around 100-120gb. I have many large programs to install like adobe CS3, office 07, etc that take up a lot of space. I want to future proof it for size. What is your take on this?
I have seen some people say 20gb. Do you not put anything on this partition? That seems so small.

I don't use Vista and I have no plans to upgrade. When my WinXP licenses expire I will probably move to Apple and/or Linux. However...

I learned to give Windows LOTS of space; primarily because of programs that use large chunks of temporary disk space, such as DVD copying programs, photo/video editing programs, etc.

I don't know the minimum disk space requirements for Vista, but I'd give it at least 5x to 10x that amount.

For my main WinXP system, this is my approximate breakdown after formatting: (this has worked exceptionally well for my needs)

PRIMARY 74GB WD Raptor
:
C Drive: 50GB - 33% full (WinXP and all programs)
D Drive: 20GB - 16% full (critical file backups)

SECONDARY 74GB WD Raptor:
E Drive: 10GB - 43% full (photos)
F Drive: 45GB - 70 % full (files and image backups)
G Drive: 10GB - 93% full (networked drive for the kids)
V Drive: 5GB - 66% full (virtual memory)

Ok, thanks but now I have a question for you scuzzy.  Why would you go mac?  I have had to use macs for the last ten years in my work and hated every minute on them.  Too many things would not work on the internet and finding software was always a challenge.  Why would you you not use vista?

Ok, first a disclaimer, I received my copies of Vista Ultimate, 32 and 64 bit free as part of the beta program and things may be different if I had to go out and buy it. I most likely still would have bought it but not the ultimate version and probably OEM to save a few bucks.

That said however, I like it. Sure it's not perfect, the first thing I did was turn off User Account Control, what a nuisance that is. Windows sidebar didn't do anything for me either, but for the most part it runs fine and I find myself using it more than my XP system.

I have mine installed on a 320 gig hard drive with 100 gigs for the OS and programs the rest is for files and what not. I recently installed another 320 gig drive and will be setting up the 64 bit version with a 100 gig partition and use the leftover to put files on to use with both installs.

It's impossible for me to appropriately discuss my frustration with Microsoft. I simply am no longer willing to do a thing to further their profits in any manner, and I hope to be 100% Microsoft free within 2 years.

I have 3 partitions on my main drive and only one on the other.  My vista is at 50gb as I am only putting the os and several small apps on this drive.  All the other apps are on my other separate drive.  My problem is that somehow the vista drive keeps filling up and I don't know why.  I can't find anything that is adding up to 41gb that it says it is full of.  Where could it be?
