wonderings

I want to eventually connect my pc running Vista Ultimate to my 34 HD widescreen tv. Will the resolution be ok for doing regular things on my tv like surfing the net and general use of the OS? Also, will it automatically fit a widescreen tv? I have never used a pc and tv together, and I kinda like the idea with my wireless keyboard and mouse, wireless internet, to be able to surf the net, listen to music and view my photos downstairs on my tv. So any help with hot I would set this up would be appreciated.

thanks

I will be picking up a wireless card today at lunch, and hopefully setup my pc with my computer tonight. I have a wireless keyboard already, so I am pretty much set. I will let you know how it works tomorrow if I do get it going to night.

well I connected my pc to my tv yesterday. I used the s-video to component cable that came with it. It was not usable for daily computer use. I am about 5 feet from my 34 inch Hi-def widescreen toshiba tv and I was getting a headache using it. I played around with the screen settings for a while, nothing really fit my widescreen, but I got one that fit alright. Media centre look ok, it was definitely made to use on a tv. I am wondering if the dvi to hdmi might give a better result. Any thoughts on this?

I have a PC running Vista. I would like to use my tv (34 inch widescreen Toshiba HD) as a monitor. I have a 512 mb video card that has an s-video out with an adapter for a component. I tried to set this up yesterday, and the image on the tv was horrible and unusable. I did play with the display settings and could get nothing that I found to be acceptable or usable. The only other option I could think of was dvi to HDMI. Will I notice any improvement with this setup? Any chance of me using my tv as a monitor? or is it pretty much limited to media center in Vista?

thanks

DVI-HDMI should be much better than s-video-component.  s-video and component are both analogue formats.  s-video is a pretty poor analogue format at that.  Using DVI-HDMI means that the signal will be digital throughout and will be much crisper.

Having said that, it wll be somewhat dependent on how well your TV handles each format.

thanks, from everything I read online, it can be hit and miss. Well I will buy and hdmi to dvi cable tomorrow and give it a shot. If it doesn't work, I can just return the cable to BestBuy. I will let everyone know how it works tomorrow.

thanks

The other issue, having just purchased an HDTV, is they ain't all equal. There are some HDTVs with better/higher resolutions than others. Checking yours might give you some insight.

Not sure what you  mean Ja. My video card has a DVI, VGA, and S-video. It came with an s-video to hd component cable adapter. Thats what I used, s-video out of the video card, into the adapter, hd cables into the tv.

oh, I have regular cable, not hi-def. It looks alright, nothing to write home about though. The picture is more then acceptable for cable television.

I know for a fact that my tv has HDMI. I have a  40 gift card for BestBuy, and they have a DVI to HDMI cable for $79 CAD ($67 USD). I am going to pick one up after work and see how it works. I really hope this works. I would a great setup at home!

I didnt try that as I dont have VGA on my tv, just HDMI. The best solution I think is DVI to HDMI. Its stays digital that way.  From what I have read online that should be the best solution.
