Can Printers Be Lubricated?

My HP DeskJet 932C printer has begun to give off "squeaks" when printing. These are not the "grinding noise" sometimes spoken of. Rather, these sound like a lack of lubrication where two metal surfaces are in contact. Is there some area I might try to lubricate to solve this problem? I know that HP does not recommend lubricating the carriage roller.

Hi Pete

Several days ago I sent an e-mail to HP Inkjet Printer Support, not expecting much in return. However, in two days I received a reply that included the following :

"First of all I would request you to clean the paper feed rollers manually. Please follow the steps below to clean the paper feed rollers.

Before you begin the printer must be in a ready state with the green

power light on and no flashing lights. If it is in an error state

(flashing lights) damage may occur to the printer.

1. Unplug the printer.

2. Remove any paper in the paper tray assembly.

3. Look inside the paper tray assembly to verify that no paper is

stuck inside the printer. If any paper is still inside the

printer, remove it.

4. Remove the rear access door or duplexer. Once the door is

removed, 5 wheels are visible inside the printer. The 3

rubber-coated wheels are the paper feed rollers.

5. Take a clean lint free cloth dampened with distilled water and

clean the exposed portions of the 3 rubber-coated wheels. Now

rotate the wheels down by placing a finger at the top of a wheel

and rolling it down until a new section is exposed. Repeat the

the process of cleaning and moving the rollers until you have

cleaned the entire surface of the 3 feed rollers.

NOTE: If distilled water is not available you may use tap water.

DO NOT use alcohol or anyother cleaning solution since

they may damage or reduce the life of the feed rollers.

6. Try printing again"

I followed the instructions and the "squeaks" seem to have disappeared. It does makes sense that glazed rubber could squeak when trying to pull paper into the printer. I would think these instructions belong in the HP User's Guide. Thanks for your reply in any case.
