Depends on how long the "fix up" takes I suppose.

Does the system work? How much do you have to do? Are you installing an operating system? Programs? Transferring files?

I recently backed up a laptop for a fellow, had to buy a part so I could connect a 2.5 inch laptop drive to my system to backup his files, then reinstalled his OS and put the programs and files back on his system and charged $75.

I once tried to fix up my computer, and wound up buying a new computer.  That cost a lot more than I was expecting.  And, I didn't get anything for my old computer, since I gave that away.

Ace;  I probably won't go into the business.

well the only request of the original owner was to back-up files from the hard drive.. its a corrupted registry so ill have to burn some dvd's to backup the files. I feel i should back up the files to dvd instead of just giving the owner back the hard drive. As he wont be able to access his data easily/ and the the fact that the hard drive could be failing.

1. Back up files from existing hard drive to other media
2. Install new hard drive(he has one)
3. format and install fresh copy of windows xp (has cd)
4. which entails installing new drivers ( dell has good driver support atleast)
5.  also office will be installed as well (has cd)
what i figured was 30 for the backup and 70 to resurrect the computer.
Does that seem fair??  By all means .. Opinions are greatly appreciated
and time can very so im not sure how long it will take heh.

ps. Ace, though you probably wont get into the business, you did provide
merchandise, at the best price.
