Hey, Brian, good to see you here. We're just getting started, so questions and suggestions are welcome. That goes for everyone. If you have a concern, chances are others are thinking the same thing, so let us know.

The tabled format (as opposed to the threaded format of the the old chat) is a little hard to get used to at first because it doesn't feel as intimate, but it does have its advantages.

The threaded, single-forum boards can get awkward when more people with a larger variety of reasons for visiting begin showing up. This format makes it easier for late arrivers to find areas of interest.

New vistors were so discouraged by the helter-skelter poasting on the old chat that they didn't bother even looking for their topic of interest, and so we were getting lots of duplicate questions, such as "What's happening with Quantex?" That got old pretty quick, especially for us admins.

It's also convenient here that a long thread opens all at once, not one poast at a time. You can refer back to previous messages without having to guess who said what where. Though opening an entire thread here can take longer than opening a single reply in the old forum, all those clicks reading one reply at a time added up, and that has to figure into ease of use.

Also making it easier to check new poasts is that once you click open a forum, the topics with new poasts are listed first.

And unlike a lot of tabled message boards we looked at, this one does have some short cuts for navigation. The Active Topics link is pretty handy: whenever you come back, you can click it to see what topics have been replied to since you last visited. After reading a thread, you can use the drop-down menu at the bottom to jump to another forum. And rather than waiting to be re-directed after poasting, you can click on the folders icons to the left to go where you want.

As far as poasting features like Preview and Editing, there's just no comparison.

If we can get some (hopefully) minor database problems straightened out, I think we have a winner here.

Thank you, Brian, for at least considering. We realized some folks might not be too happy about this move, so we're grateful to everyone who will at least give us a chance. I'm confident (as well a hopeful) that you'll come to like it here, along with others who may not be too sure about all of this. Please give us feedback, as we do want to know what you think. As for the occasional bugs, they will get worked out.

Hey My Brian,

Since when do I let you think for yourself???

You are not allowed to reserve judgement. Think "I love it here, I love it here, I love it here and that is all you are permitted and if you allow your mind to wander you know what is going to happen to you.

How sad for all of us if you didn't enjoy our new home. I can't imagine not seeing you around here.

Your Joanie

Brian: I've used this format elsewhere.  Give it a test drive.  You'll love seeing every post to a topic w/o clicking again and again down a long "outline" chain. And you get email whenever your post is responded to, not just the first "level"!

You are talking about this site?

Brian

Please let me reserve judgment.  Although I am saddened, I do not want to shoot from the hip.  Maybe you could give me a couple days...

Brian
