i have decided that as i have this job now ;D i am going to build myself a new system... just the case... i have everyting else to hand here.. around me... in this mess i call a bedroom... anyway....

here we go!!

K8 3400+ CPU - ?210
W. D. Caviar 120gb 8mb cache S-ATA - ?77.49
Black cd-rw - ?25.09
zorro ATX case, black - ?41.07
sapphire 256mb radeon 9600 dvi, tvo -?73.97
512mb 400mhz PC3200 - ?58.69 (plan to upgrade when i have the cash)
MSI K8T Neo   -   ?91.59

what do you tink?

what will the speed's be... this is going to be a pure gaming system... will upgrade the 512mbb ram to 1gig or 1.5gig... to prevent windows XP pagefiling all the time....

Looks really nice. That MSI board is a good board and the processor is fast. You could go with a 3200+ instead of the 3400+ and get it for almost half price without losing hardly anything in performance.

Check the price of the Radeon 9800 Pro with 128 megs of RAM and see how it compares to the 9600 with 256 megs of RAM. If the price if comprable, then go with the 9800 as it is a better video card.

What size power supply will you be using? Make sure you don't skimp on the power supply.

Speed wise, your system will be a screamer and should perform very well with games - even with just 512 megs of RAM.
Enjoy the nature that is around you rather than destroying it.

If you wait until the new ATI Radeon X800 hits the market, the 9800 Pro will probably come down in price. I would use a video card you have laying around and wait for the price plunge.

400 watts should be ample.

As for PATA or SATA: PATA is the parallel interface with the wide ribbons. SATA is a serial interface that uses the small round cables. SATA has a faster theoretical throughput, although the hard drives themselves are bottlenecks. For the same price, I would go with SATA for the smaller cable.

If you get the SATA drive, put the drivers for the SATA controller on a floppy (from the motherboard CD) and have it ready for when you install Windows. You will have to hit F6 when the windows installer is loading so that it will prompt you for drivers, which will be on the floppy you created.
Enjoy the nature that is around you rather than destroying it.

right... ok... do you have that link for the 64bit windows operating system?

thanks alot about the graphics card... i have a geforce 2 built into this system... i may buy the 9600se to put into that... after i have the 9800 for the new computer...
