Suggested changes:

Drop the Maxtor drive and buy a WD, Seagate, Hitachi or Samsung.  Maxtor is having major reliability issues (Dell just dropped them as a supplier).

Change the DVD drive to an NEC ND-2510A.  Much more solid drive.

I'd up the video to an ATI9600Pro or 9800Pro.

The Hitachi drives seem to offer the best "bang for buck" and not in the literal sense like the older IBM branded Deskstars.  The new drives appear to be very good indeed.  Mine gets around 60MB/s.

With the new 5-year warranty (at least in the US), Seagate is worth a good look as well.

You may also wish to consider a motherboard based on the Nforce2 chipset, the VIA 400 is rather dated now.
I see you have chosen a motherboard with on-board graphics. You really don?t need that if you?re buying a separate video card.

I agree. The nforce chipset is much more advanced than the via 400.

It may be wise to get the integrated video, as the price difference is almost nothing, and if anything should go wrong with your AGP graphics, you can use the integrated for testing or a temporary. It's nice to have. The nforce integrated is also the best in the business, or at least it was until recently.

What is your budget and what features would you like?

I would agree that the A7N8X (whichever version you want, depending on features) is a better choice than a VIA board.  MSI makes similar boards as well.

You can find an MSI ATI 9800Pro card for about $40 less than the ATI version - and with a better software bundle.

I would get the Biostar M7NCG 400 over the Asus, having built with both I can safely say the Biostar is much better. Version 7.2 (currently shipping) is very stable and gives access to all overclocking voltages and tweaks - and the Asus does not. I'm don't always suggest Biostar - in fact the Asu A78NX-E is a fine motherboard if you like Sata-Raid, And soundstorm. But for mATX nforce2 ther are none better than the Biostar M7NCG 400 - check the newegg reviews - it outsells all of the others by a huge margin.
